HELLO EVERYONE!!

So, it appears like it's been almost a full year since I last updated my journal. Lots of stuff has been going on here. I helped my mom move and, in doing so, moved back up with her to help her out for awhile. I started and ended another semester of school, and just recently had a visit to the ER. Just a few days ago I even had my comic work compromised after an incompetent server at Denny's poured coffee all over my pages in an attempt to refill my mug.

But, here we are. Hours before the new Doctor Who premieres on BBC America.

I have just been announced as a guest for Saboten Con 2014

Buy your tickets here www.sabotencon.com/attending/b…

If you're in the area, or plan on attending the con, come out and support this convention and swing by and see me! Saboten Con is Arizona's premiere Japanese Culture convention!
I am truly very honored to be back at Saboten Con. Thank you again to all involved for having me return!

I am releasing a special, limited edition 200 copy print run of Zombie B.C. #2, exclusive to Saboten Con. ONCE THOSE 200 COPIES ARE SOLD OUT, THERE WILL BE NO REPRINTS!
The book is an A.R.C. (Advanced Readers Copy) for Zombie B.C. #2, presented in it's raw, original pencils without inks.
Cover art will be unveiled shortly (cover art by Ryan McMurry).
I will have the latest printing of Zombie B.C. #1 on hand to sell, as well. I will also have limited commission spots open as I have a busy schedule being part of discussion panels.

I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!

Saboten Con is a special kind of convention for me. It was at the very first Saboten Con when I started trying out Art Tables (I shared table space with ArtLair at www.artlair.com). It was also the last time I saw one of my close friends, Greg, before he more-or-less stopped coming out to our shows. I have missed many other cons in recent years due to personal stuff happening, but I have yet to miss a Saboten Con and I have been present as an artist at every one so far!

Saboten Con 2012 marked my departure from being a "print artist", where I released my first comic book, "Zombie B.C.". I wrote and drew the whole thing as well as being my own editor. My friend of 5 years, and local model, Aurora O'Brien had known about the project back in it's early stages and wanted to contribute artwork for it in her support for my project. She was unable to complete the art on her own due to emergencies due to weather problems, so she had her mentor and legendary artist Steve Rude "The Dude" (see: Nexus comic book, DC Comics "Before Watchmen: Dollar Bill #1") finish up the image. That image became the cover to the first issue of Zombie B.C. #1, which I then colored myself.
I wasn't sure about premiering a horror comic at an anime/Japanese con, especially when there aren't any real Japanese influences in the story or art. But I was pleasantly surprised when I sold out my first printings.

Now I am honored to be brought back out to Saboten Con. I love to support these guys and I want to release something new and special to this convention.

Hope to see you guys there!!

How has everyone been?! :)

Hey guys,
It's been a long, long time.
I have been moving for the past... couple months. Why is it taking forever? Because I'm really doing most of it myself. I'm moving to help family out. Technically this has been a couple years now, never knowing when exactly we were supposed to move. I gave up a lot of opportunities because I wasn't sure when I would be gone or not. Once this started, I got some really useful help, such as borrowing a friends truck for a month or so but the majority has been me. It's really been wearing me out.

Anyways! Today is my 29th birthday!
And I wanted to get word out here that I am a guest for Saboten Con coming up Aug 31-Sept 2!

If you're local or planning on going, come see me! I'll be getting reprints of Zombie B.C. for sale.
I'll also have a couple panels (something I have never done before) so I'll share that information once the schedule is made up.
I'm also trying to get some new prints made but I have discovered I'm missing a few components to my computer, such as the power cable for the tower.
Until then, I cant access my Photoshop. I can try bring my scanner to my mom's computer (the only other computer I really have access to) put she would need to download a driver for the scanner and tablet and I would need to import all my brushes.

Anyway, I gotta finish trying to get enrolled in classes and eat breakfast.

Hey everyone!
Sorry I haven't been around too much lately. I got a job doing some artwork for a website and under contract I'm not allowed to post the work outside of the original website. So that work along with my "normal" employment and still being a student have been taking a lot of time away from more personal work.

At any rate, my artwork has been accepted for the Badge Art Contest for the upcoming Phoenix ComiCon '13.
We are getting 4 of the cast members from The Walking Dead: Laurie Holden (Andrea), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Michael Rooker (Meryl) and Chandler Riggs (Carl).

This is a brand new, never before seen piece that I completed.
The Walking Dead Badge Art submission for PCC'13 by RyanMcMurry
It started off just as something for fun until I saw that PCC were hosting another badge art contest. Originally sketching a collage/mural sorta image in my sketch book, I had to figure out a way to break apart the characters I had finished at the time so I can enter this contest.

It would be amazing if I could get you guys to vote for my art and help me towards winning!
To show some love, just head over to badgeart.phoenixcomicon.com/. I do believe you have to register/log-in to vote but they give you a quick choice to log-in through Facebook.

Thank you again!

Well it's been awhile, and I'm checking my page.
I haven't abandoned the page but I just haven't been able to get anything worthwhile completed. I have been doing some drawing but I haven't been able to get anything to a completed stage.
Everything has been incredibly stressful on my side for awhile but it just isn't letting up. Recently the shit has really been hitting the fan to the point I'm having health related problems due to the amount of stress I have been under.

This weekend was the Amazing Arizona Comic Con (AACC), which I had to unfortunately miss out on again this year. This was it's 3rd year and I have only made it to one of the shows. I was really bummed out to be missing the con because above all else I just wanted to hang out with friends for the weekend and sell my books.

As for the comic: I have been writing the new issue of Zombie B.C. The original goal was to follow up with book #2 for release at AACC, starting production immediately following the launch at Saboten Con in Sept 2012. The story was laid out roughly and then I had to stop production because of demands for school.
Classes ended, stress and life took over while I was still fleshing out the rest of the story. On a lengthy drive, while I was writing more story on my iPod, my app cleared itself of the entire story outline, forcing me to re-write the story. I atleast remember the basics of the story but much of the other details were forgotten.
So I'm in the process of working on book #2. I'm also working on some artwork, possibly a cover or a poster or something.
I had my friend, Armand Villavert Jr, take a moment from working on his comic (Gladstone School Of World Conquerors, formally an Image Comic) to review what I had written and he feels I really have books #2 and #3 with what I'm doing on this next issue.

Zombie B.C. #2 will be on it's way and it will be a full sized 24pg comic book as well.
Getting Aurora O'Brien and Steve Rude "The Dude" to collaborate on the cover to issue 1 was a lot of fun so maybe I'll find ways of working with friends similarly.
A fun aspect of issue #1 was that I had drawn a group of friends into the comic, something I may not follow up with future books. I will probably keep the characters that survived book 1 but it's way too hard to coordinate and, additionally, when I have asked for a model or a reference very seldom does anyone follow up. Seriously, just say "No I can't". Don't say "Sure!" and postpone it.
Now I just need to see what time I can put into the book with the new semester started and needing to work more...

Hey all!
So sorry for the delay here. This is honestly the first I have been on the computer since the beginning of the month.
I got really sick post-con. Many people call it 'Con-Plague". I'm not entirely sure that's what it really was. I think it was just a culmination of me just not taking care of myself very well over the course of the convention. I had sinus problems, I couldn't breath, I was wheezing which then meant I couldn't sleep. At somepoint I got a violent cause of the hiccups that caused me to throw up. I called out of work, something I just never do. I been working where I been for over 3 years and never took a sick day.
So today I'm at the computer, trying to do some school work and getting ready for work tonight at 4.

So: Saboten Convention was a lot of fun. I ended up as a guest of the convention and was seated between Armand Villavert Jr (artist of Gladstone School For World Conquerors) and Pikmin Link (famous cosplayer known for cosplaying Link from The Legend of Zelda). Overall the con took a lot out of me and probably that exhaustion lead to me becoming very susceptible to allergies or whatever I got.

the premiere of Zombie B.C.! my first attempt at drawing anything sequentially, was self-published (Thanks to Ready Comics) and ready to go for the weekend!
I completed the book on time and had them ready. I was very happy with myself for completing what I set out to do regardless of all the road blocks in my way that I faced in the production of this comic (most of which are dealing with my life, such as moving, something I been keeping quit about).
I had a total of 55 comics printed and I'm down to less than 20 comics after the convention, most of those remaining are already being claimed from my Facebook.
Overall I would say this was a successful launch and I'm very happy about this. I will be making appropriate edits for a 2nd Printing of the comic (color balancing the cover and doing some more clean up to the interior pages).
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
I am writing a vol.2 for Zombie B.C. now so stay tuned for more!

Also I may have a book launch and signing at a local comic shop soon, so keep checking here or follow me at www.facebook.com/ArtOfRyanMcMurry for more information.

Right now, I'm getting back to homework and taking care of my now-hurting neck. Uugh.
